Dear Shareware Vendor:
This VENDOR.DOC file contains the information necessary for distribution of
PC-Navigator. Contact information is on the bottom.
DISTRIBUTION POLICY:
You may distribute PC-Navigator in any way that you see fit as long as
it is identified as shareware, it is distributed without an
activation-key, and as long as we do not request that you stop (an
unlikely event). We would also very much appreciate a notification
that you are distributing our product.
SUGGESTED ARCHIVE NAME AND SHORT DESCRIPTION:
PCNAV11.EXE - PC-Navigator: menuing/tools/noRAM/sun&moon
KEYWORDS:
MENUING/TOOLS/DOS/ASTRONOMY/NAVIGATOR/BATCH
REGISTRATION COST AND BENEFITS:
Basic registration - $12, Optional manual - $8
Benefits: Activation key, e-mail & phone support, updates, passwords
VERSIONS:
PC-Navigator is distributed in one version. Upon registration an
activation key disables the first-of-day registration reminder, several
registration pages in the help system, and enables passwords (the
activation key resets a forgotten password). Otherwise the version is
fully functional with full help and no planned unpleasant surprises
down the road.
HARDWARE REQUIREMENTS:
Hard disk recommended (floppy OK), any monitor, 384K RAM, DOS 2+.
PACKAGING:
Our "Shareware Vendor" diskette includes the files from method #1
below, and in addition provides PCNAV11.ZIP with authenticity
verification "Krause-McFarland" from method #2 below. Note therefore
that we are providing two full copies of the program.
Running "a:install" will 1) prompt for a path, 2) cause PCNAV11.EXE to
self extract, and 3) run "navgator setup" causing final setup.
Packaging methods in order of our preference and ease of use follow:
1. Distribute on diskette and include INSTALL.EXE, PCNAV11.EXE,
READ.ME, and optionally VENDOR.DOC and FILE_ID.DIZ. Install by
running "a:install".
2. ZIP the diskette described in #1 above to PCNAV11.ZIP. We have
included a copy of this file with "Krause-McFarland" authenticity
verification.
3. Distribute PCNAV11.EXE by itself or ZIP it to PCNAV11.ZIP. It self
extracts and instructs to run "navgator setup" to complete the
installation. Running "pcnav11 c:\pcnav" is what INSTALL.EXE is
designed to do.
The following method is discouraged:
4. ZIP to PCNAV11.ZIP the required extracted files including
NAVGATOR.EXE, NAVORIG.DAT, NAVHELP.DAT, NAVCITY.DAT, NAVUTIL.TRE,
NAVTOUR.TXT, and NAVICON.ICO along with READ.ME and VENDOR.ME. Do
not distribute PCNAV.BAT, NAV*.BAT or NAV.DAT as these must be
created via "navgator setup".
We highly recommend that our original PCNAV11.EXE is included in any
distribution method.
PRODUCT COMPARISON:
PC-Navigator is full-featured with a very professional user-friendly
interface. It appears as a small movable/sizable window that sits on
top of the DOS screen. In the window is a fully customizable pull-down
menuing system, a toolset, a clock with a sun & moon display, and a
context-sensitive help system. It supports a mouse.
Tools available from function keys include a calculator with tape, an
editor, a filer with tree, a calendar, a system info display, a screen
blanker, a keylock, and passwords. It is also fully configurable for
remote control applications and to keep kids out-of-trouble.
The top three shareware menuing programs we are aware of plus the DOS
Shell have a similar amount of functionality, however PC-Navigator has
several key advantages:
■ Menuing window does not hide DOS, but rather enhances it as it
teaches DOS awareness.
■ Requires no permanent RAM and as a result is not prone to the
compatibility problems and memory constraints a "shell" or
"TSR" experience.
■ Designed to run simultaneously "above" and "below" Windows...
taking no memory and providing games Windows will not run and
multi-command items that icons will not support, with the same
DOS menu above and below.
■ Loads and unloads TSRs including network, fax and remote
control programs.
In addition PC-Navigator comes with a prebuilt utilities menu, it is
network friendly, it is fast on an XT, it requires only 350K of disk
space, and its tools run stand-alone.
We believe PC-Navigator has the most professional interface in the
business... but you must be the judge of that.
CATALOG DESCRIPTION SAMPLES:
CONCISE:
A full-featured professional DOS menuing system and toolset that
pops up as a window on top of DOS. It consumes no RAM, is fast on
any PC, and is inherently compatible. Tools include a calculator
with tape, an editor, a filer with tree, a calendar, and more. It
even tracks the sun and moon.
ECOLOGICAL:
If you still prefer DOS on an older PC to Windows on the latest-
and-greatest, try PC-NAVIGATOR a robust, fast and friendly menuing
system and toolset that takes little disk space and no permanent
RAM. It even tracks the sun and moon. High quality, low impact.
TRY THIS:
This is possibly the finest all-round menuing program we have seen.
Rather than hiding DOS it sits on top in a window. Build pull-down
menus, use the toolset, or follow sun and moon phases on its
clock/calendar. Review calculations on a printable tape or display
hard disk usage in a tree. No dead-ends here... PC-Navigator is
not a "shell" or "TSR" and thus consumes no permanent memory, runs
on any PC, and experiences no compatibility or memory constraints.
Its even designed to run simultaneously above and below Windows.
DETAILED:
PC-Navigator pops on and off you DOS screen as a small window that
includes customizable pull-down menus, a tool bar, and a clock with
its sun and moon display. Watch DOS at work! This snappy program
works well on any PC and takes away none of it precious RAM memory.
Its tools include a calculator with tape, an editor, a filer with
tree, a calendar, a system info display, a screen blanker, a
keylock, and passwords. It even runs simultaneously above and
below Windows, providing games Windows will not run and multi-
command items like backups that icons will not support... and of
course your full DOS collection. In addition it loads and unloads
network, fax and remote-control TSRs, provides a context-sensitive
help system, and supports a mouse.
TECHNICAL:
Professionals find PC-Navigator the menuing program and toolset
that provides consistency across installations, from XT to Pentium
with Windows or even NT. Batch file driven, it consumes no memory
and has no compatibility issues. It loads and unloads TSRs, runs
simultaneously above and below windows, and provides locking for
single-user networked applications. Its fully configurable with
security to eliminate tools and exits that might get users or kids
in trouble.
Thank you,
R. Alan McFarland
